Meet the Photographer: Myrto Grigoriou
Sometimes, discovering creative people gives you a unique feeling: Anticipation and impatience to meet them in person. That's how I felt when I came across Myrto's instagram page. Her photographs create a romantic atmosphere in your head when you look at them, that certain kind of romanticism that you experience when you visit Paris. After falling in love with the photographs she takes, I couldn't not introduce her here in Cats love Athens. Grab a seat and learn some more about the lovely and talented Myrto!
Hello Myrto! Welcome to Cats love Athens! Tell us a few words about you.
Hello girls! First of all, I would like to thank you for the hospitality in your wonderful blog! About me, I am a 21-year-old girl from Greece, the youngest of my parents' five children. I have two nephews which I currently miss, I like books, nostalgic films, the tints of the sunset, baking, and I am waiting for a cat to adopt me. Ah, and sleeping; and laughing; and sleeping again.
How did it all start? Descibe to us when you first started taking your own photographs.
I believe I was 14 years old when my brother bought a compact camera, which I wanted to use all the time; I remember loving portraits since then. However, I started taking pictures in a regular basis almost a year ago.
What was the first camera you ever bought?
Apart from that camera which my brother was almost forced it to give away to me (*laughing), last November I bought my very first camera which is Canon.
I believe my main influence is Le Fabuleux Destin d' Amelie Poulain! Moreover, last year I travelled to Paris, where I met my childhood's pen pal for the first time. On that trip, many things changed for me, my way of seeing the world. In Paris I found myself. Also, for the record, sunlight is something I am attracted to play with in my work, as is the female body and its natural characteristics.
Do you have any beloved famous photographers?
I really like Martina Matencio and I believe that we have similar aesthetics. And of course, the great Henri Cartier-Bresson, who said ''It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera. They are made with the eye, heart and head.''
Describe your style in 5 words.
Convenient, unique, vintage, boho and of course skirts if I may!
If you could pick one of your photographs as a number one which one would be?
It is hard to say, but I think it is this one. You can see the way I use the sun combined with the female body.
How do you feel when you are the one being photographed by someone else?
Although I like having good pictures, I usually don't enjoy being photographed, because I think as a photographer and not as a model; and if a friend of mine tries to take pictures of me they usually regret it because I am always giving advice and I never allow them to find the perspective or the lighting they want by themselves.
And finally, what are your future goals?
I dream a lot and all the time, but the one thing I can say with certainty is that I imagine myself somewhere in Monmarte, able yet to call myself an artist.
